Call of Duty: Black Ops 2: Revolution DLC Review

The first DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is brought in the form of Revolution, a new DLC which gives the player access to four new multiplayer maps, a new zombies map, a new zombies game mode and for the first time in call of duty history a new bonus multiplayer weapon. Sounds Good? Well then here's the question. Is it worth it? This will be split up into 2 parts Multiplayer and Zombies.

MULTIPLAYER

The Revolution map pack comes with 4 new multiplayer maps called Hydro, Mirage, Grind and Downhill. The maps all have interesting designs especially Grind and Hydro.

Hydro is set in a water works plant in Pakistan with good close quarters engagements along the sides and long distance engagements along the middle. The key thing about Hydro is that it has a waterway which will periodically flood killing anyone caught inside there is a good warning to alert when it will flood so you will not be caught off guard.

Grind is set in a skate park in Venice Beach California and introduces curves into the environment making you feel less secure as you cannot use the walls for cover very easily as they are sloped. The map is not very small either which makes it great for games such as ground war. The map is filled with close quarters engagements all throughout the map.

Mirage is set in a luxury resort in the Gobi Desert in China and is covered with sand dunes which can be used for cover and to your advantage is cases of who is higher or who can be seen by the other. The map is the smallest of the four and has an empty pool on one side of the map and broken down vehicles on the other side of the map. The map has many good vantage points which snipers tend to use a lot.

Downhill is set in a ski resort in the French Alps the map is comprised of snow and buildings. Running down the middle of the map are the gondolas which can be used for cover but beware the gondolas are always moving and if you do not pay attention they will give you instant death. The map has many key vantage spots which snipers love to fight over.

For the first time in Call of Duty history a DLC has included a weapon. This weapon is called the peacekeeper SMG which is a hybrid of an assault rifle and a sub machine gun. The weapon has the fire rate and mobility of a sub machine gun with the range and damage of an assault rifle. The gun is well balanced and is sometimes challenging to use against the guns such as the PDW-57 and MSMC.

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 review

Price:£40.49 (best price)
Platforms:Xbox, Playstation 3, Wii U and PC.
Activision's latest addition to the popular franchise is one of the most anticipated of 2012 with developer Treyarch making millions in the first week of release, the result of months of waiting. In this review we cover the main parts of the question should you buy this game.

Main Menu

The game's menu is easy to navigate giving you three options: Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies. Clicking on the Campaign option will present you with a simple menu asking you if you would like to continue your current mission, restart your current mission or start a new Campaign. The Multiplayer option will lead on to a menu asking you if you would like to play on Xbox live, System Link or Local with these options we also get the options menu for your sensitivity, invert axis, graphic and audio settings along with the in-game store where you can purchase map packs, avatars or the season pass.

Campaign

The Campaign is presented very well with good storyline which takes place in the not too far future of 2025 and cold war environments. There are many good elements of the campaign such as excellent character facial capture, good campaign time, in-game decisions which affect the outcome of your story and finally the strike force missions. The strike force missions are missions where you are put in control of a number of different units and are assigned various different tasks at various locations.

Although the concept sounds good the units did not really do anything and seemed to get killed a lot, the reason being they would only do one objective at a time, for example if they are going to a location they will attack units that stand in the way and not pick fights by themselves. They would only attack if commanded or if taking fire themselves. I found myself having to complete them on my own. So I ended up sending the units to one objective and clearing the area then to the next objective and so on. The Strike force missions will change the outcome of your campaign so try to complete them without losing any forces for that perfect campaign.

Multiplayer

What good is a call of duty game if it has no multiplayer? Well Black Ops 2 is no exception, whether you choose to dive straight into the action or practise in combat training, multiplayer mode gives you the ability to face other players around the world with 55 different ranks and 11 prestige levels you will have plenty to aim for. Brand new to Black Ops 2 is league play which places you in a team and lets you take part in several seasons of play with many different game modes. League play forces you to be more of a team player rather than focussing on your K/D. The multiplayer experience is good giving you access to a variety of weapons which you can put in your custom classes which has a new pick 10 system this means that every part of your loadout is given 1 point and you can mix and match different parts to make your custom class there is also the new wildcard system giving you the ability to break the rules of the loadout for example giving you three attachments on you weapon or taking up to six perks or having to lethal grenades there are many possibilities. The multiplayer is good and you will surely spend endless hours playing online.

Zombies

The zombies mode of Call of Duty:Black Ops 2 is back with the new tranzit mode where you must fight against waves of undead zombies but with a new twist the map is much bigger than a regular survival map with a bus to take you to all the stops in the map but it doesn't stop there the game also features new buildables such as a zombie trap, a zombie shield and a new weapon. There is also a new mode called grief which places you in games of 4 vs 4 where you can work together or strategically force the other players down but in the end only one team survives. Zombies is more fun when you are playing with friends and the new leaderboards mean you can compare your killing abilities with your friends.

Verdict

Black ops 2 is a fun game with lots of content such as a great campaign with lots of great moments, a good multiplayer experience with a lots of different ways to play and a great zombies experience to keep you going. I have to say that this is one of the best first person shooters I have ever played. I give this game a 9/10.

Nova 3 Review

Price: £4.99
Publisher: Gameloft
Gameloft's latest addition to the award winning franchise puts high expectations from the likes of Modern Combat 3. Well with Nova 3 you go beyond those expectations. With outstanding graphics, great gameplay and a great online experience.

Nova 3 has a simple layout on the main menu giving you 2 play options Campaign and Multiplayer.

The Main Menu

Gameplay

Campaign

Clicking on Campaign will show each level available to play on or to start the Campaign.
The Campaign Level Selection Screen
The Campaign is a good experience as you take control of Kal Warden battle your way across a variety of different environments including what remains of Earth and an Alien spaceship filled with enemies. The missions are fully packed and are fun to play and do take time to complete they are auto saved so you do not have to worry about progress issues. There are a couple of problems, such as enemies will not spawn sometimes and the game will crash if you have too many apps open and your memory is low, but those are not big issues.

The story is easy to follow and you will understand what the game is about. The Single-Player missions last between 30-90 mins.
The Online Multiplayer screen

Multiplayer

Clicking on Multiplayer will bring up the Multiplayer menu  giving you two options Online or Local Wifi. The multiplayer offering is a good one with a solid connection meaning no connection lost messages like in Modern Combat 3. The game modes used in multiplayer are:
Free-For-All: The player must defeat all other players.
Deathmatch: The player must work with his team(red or blue) to defeat the opposing team.
Freeze Tag: The player and their team must kill all opposing team members when an opponent is killed they are frozen and a fellow team member must stay near the for 3 seconds to get them back in the game.
The Multiplayer Screen
Capture The Flag: Each team must prevent the oher team from taking their flag while trying to capture the other teams flag.
InstaGib: A mode like Free-For-All but with the exception of power ups. Every player has the same weapon and a hit is an instant death.
Capture The Point: Capture all points on the map for 30 seconds to score a point standing by a point
will capture it.
The multiplayer is fun to play and will never be the same old match each match has different players of all levels and experiences. You can Rank up to get extra weapons and equipment

The Verdict

Nova 3 is a strong first person shooter with many different weapons and levels it is one of the best looking games I have ever seen. The game if full featured with an excellent multiplayer and campaign and will be sure to keep you going.

Xperia PLAY Experience Pack XP151 Review

Included:
Multimedia Dock DK300
Pocket Micro USB Cable EC300                        Can be purchased from Amazon.co.uk here
3.5mm Music Cable MC100
3 Free Gameloft Games

The Xperia PLAY Experience pack XP151 is a good addition, aside from including a host of great accessories, it enables some new features to the phone, including a bedside view which shows the time, weather and date, there are 4 soft buttons at the bottom of the screen: Alarms, Gallery Photos, Music and Homescreen.

The bedside view once dimmed

When the phone is docked at night, it has a neat clock view which can be set to dim by pressing the toggle in the top right corner to use by the bedside (to stop the image burning into your screen, after 5 mins of dimmed display only the clock will remain and will slowly move around the screen.)

If the phone is docked during the daytime, it can easily be switched into the gallery photo mode which shows your photos in a digital photo frame style view.

There are reports of problems if the phone is not placed on and off the dock carefully, so it is wise to ensure it is always in line with the viewing angle.

The 3 free gameloft games are decent quality including some of their top selling like Gangstar Rio:City of Saints, Nova 3 and Modern Combat 3. Unfortunately one of the games did not work for me and they were helpful and gave me another game for free.

The Verdict

If you can pick one of these packs up for under £15 it is an excellent offer. It includes all the things you could almost ever want.

Asphalt 7: Heat Review

Price: £0.69
Publisher: Gameloft
The Loading Screen
Asphalt 7:Heat is Gamelofts latest edition to the Asphalt series. It is a well polished game with 60 cars from manufacturers such as Lamborghini, Ferrari, Audi and Aston Martin.
The title screen is well presented giving you three playing options: Career, Quick Play and Multiplayer.
The Title Screen
Playing in career mode lets you take on racers in a wide variety of famous and not so famous cities in the world, buy upgrades for your car, buy some sponsors which give you boosts and buy new cars.

The career mode is lengthy and will take about a month to complete and buy all cars, (depending on how much time you spend playing the game). A typical race normally lasts between two and four minutes.
The Career Car Selection
Quick Play is very easy to use simply select the race mode then the map and finally the tier.
The Quick Play Menu
A tier is a group of cars with a certain performance level there are seven tiers with legends like the Bugatti Veyron and the Pagani Zonda and the not so fast mini cooper and Fiat 500 Abarth but are still great fun to drive.

The Multiplayer Menu
Multiplayer is available enabling you to race with people around the world using the cars you have unlocked and purchased from the career mode.
You can race online via a free Gameloft Live account or via local wifi. Multiplayer is a good experience with little to no lag.
The Online Multiplayer Menu
The gameplay was decent with great graphics and no lag while driving. The controls are easy to get used to no matter what device you are playing on.

The Verdict

Asphalt 7: Is a strong Racing game that will please all and for the asking price of £0.69. You can't go wrong.
